Questions About Pack 1229 |
1. When does the pack meet? |
Pack 1229 meets the first and third Thursday of the month at Congressional School in Falls Church, VA. |
2. What are the uniform requirements? |
The Pack provides the neckerchief and slide for each Scout. Scouts are required to purchase their own Cub Scout shirt with the appropriate patches. We also highly recommend Scouts purchase a hat, belt and a handbook. Uniform pants are optional for our Pack, but all shirts must be tucked in during meetings. |
3. What are the dues used for? |
Dues cover the annual registration fee we pay to the National Scouting program, the required insurance and a majority of the activities we do as a Pack. They also cover all awards and adventure badges earned during the year and our year end Blue & Gold banquet. |
4. How does Cub Scouts work? |
Each year Scouts are given required activities (adventures) they must complete to earn their rank. These activities are usually completed during the Thursday night den meetings. At the end of the year, the Scouts who earn their ran patch participate in a move up ceremony. |
5. What age does Cub Scouts start? |
Cub Scouts is for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade. A Scout can join the program at any age. Skills learned build on each other, but previous skills are not required for students who want to try Scouting. Our Leaders will work with you and your son/daughter to help him/her catch up. |
6. Are Cub Scouts the same as Boy Scouts? |
Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing are programs of the Boy Scouts of America—so in that sense, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers are all members of the same organization. However, they are entirely different programs: Cub Scouting is a family-oriented program designed specifically to address the needs of younger boys. Boy Scouting is designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. Venturing provides positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help members pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills. |
7. What supplies and equipment are needed to participate in Scouting? |
At minimum, each Scout will need a uniform and a handbook. Additional supplies and equipment may be needed for certain activities such as camping trips or field days. What equipment is needed, as well as whether it will be provided by the unit, will vary. Unit leaders should provide parents with information about any supplies or equipment that might be required. If you need help selecting or obtaining gear for scouting events, please contact your Packs Cubmaster or your Den leaders. |
8. How do I sign my child up for Scouting? |
The best way to sign up for Scouting is to first find a unit in your area (you can do that at Scouting.org), then contact them and ask to attend a meeting. In most cases, the Cubmaster will be happy to talk to you and answer questions you have about the program. Once you know what unit to join, it's just a matter of filling out an online application. Our Pack is always looking for new Scouts... Join the fun today! |
1. How do I get access to my unit information? |
If the site admin has limited the access to the unit's information you will need an Access ID and password to view that section of the site. You can use the Contact link in the bottom menu to contact the site admin or ask your unit leader for the Access ID and password.
If you have the Access ID and password, click on the Unit Information link. When the Authentication window opens enter the Access ID/User Name and Password. Note these fields are case sensitive. |
